Privacy policy
Epoka works without knowing who you are. No accounts, no profiles, no ad networks. This page explains what is collected and why.
What is never collected
None of the following is collected or stored in any form:
- Your name, email address (unless you subscribe to the newsletter), or any other identifier
- Your IP address — it is used at the moment of measurement and never stored
- Advertising IDs, fingerprints, device identifiers
- Cross-site tracking data
How visits are measured
Visits are counted so we know which stories get read. The measurement uses no cookies and goes to no third-party service; it stays on our own server.
The visitor identifier is a one-way digest of your IP address, browser signature, and a secret key that changes every day. Because the key rotates daily, the same person becomes a different digest tomorrow: cross-day tracking is not something we abstain from, it is technically impossible. The digest cannot be reversed back to an IP address.
The cost of this is that our unique-visitor count is only accurate within a single day. That trade is deliberate.
What is measured
Each visit records:
- The address of the page viewed
- The domain that referred you (search engine, AI assistant, social network, or direct)
- Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet) and browser family
- Country code — not city or anything finer
- Time spent on the page and how far you read
- Which article it belongs to, and whether you stayed under 15 seconds
- A salted digest of the tab session identifier — used to match the arrival to the departure
Newsletter
If you subscribe, we store your email address, the date you signed up, which page you signed up from, and which language you read in. The address is used only to send the newsletter; it is never sold, rented, or shared.
Subscription is double opt-in: nothing is sent until the address owner confirms. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the sending list immediately.
Email is delivered through Resend; your address is passed to that service for delivery.
Sponsored cards
For paid placements in the feed we keep only totals: how many times a card was shown and how many times it was clicked. These counts are not tied to any person, which card you clicked is not recorded, and nothing about your identity reaches the advertiser.
No ad network, tracking pixel, or third-party script is involved; the counter lives in our own database.
Where the data lives
The site runs on Vercel and data is stored on Neon (PostgreSQL) in a European Union region. The Anthropic API is used to produce articles; those calls contain only source news text, never reader data.
Your rights
Because measurement data cannot be linked to you, there is no record we can retrieve, correct, or delete on request — we cannot determine which record is yours.
If you subscribe to the newsletter, the unsubscribe link stops delivery immediately, but it does not delete your record: the address is marked as unsubscribed and kept so that its history survives if the same address subscribes again. To have the record deleted outright, write to merhaba@epoka.news; it is done the same day.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date on this page is updated. If the scope of what we collect ever widens, the change is announced separately.
